Can you help me update my gender?

Yes! Colorado Name Change can help you update your gender on state and federal documents. This is an important part of the name change process for many people in the transgender community.

With Jude’s Law, Colorado has made it easy to update the gender on your birth certificate and driver’s license. State issued documents do not require a medical treatment letter. It is enough to say you no longer identify with your birth gender.

Updating the gender on your social security card and US passport is harder. These federal documents still require a letter of medical treatment. But we can help you with the process if you qualify.

Most customers should at least be able to update their gender with the state. This makes sure your birth certificate and driver’s license are correct and reflect who you are.

What does it cost to use your site?

We charge a subscription fee of $9 a month to use the interviews on our site to generate name change forms.

This allows us to keep our information and forms up to date. Your support also helps us develop other websites like this one to help with different legal issues.

Customers will receive a Colorado Name Change account. This allows you and members of your household to access this site and fill out forms while you are subscribed.

We will also guide you through the process of updating your driver’s license with the department of motor vehicles (DMV). Although you will need to go to one of their offices to fill out forms.

How much does it cost for background checks and filing a name change petition with the Colorado courts?

There are several different fees when you file a name change petition in Colorado. Most of the cost is paid to the court in a filing fee. But you will also need to pay for fingerprinting and background checks in most cases.
Please note the court does not charge filing fees for name restorations within 60 days of a divorce.
Also, fingerprinting and background checks are not required for children under the age of 14.

Filing your name change petition in county or district court - $88 - $238 (you can apply to have the court consider waiving this fee if you are unable to pay)

Most name change cases filed in county court can be completed for under $200

Most people will need to pay $48 in fees to update these additional documents. These can be filed once your name change is complete with the courts.

How do I cancel my monthly membership?

We are sorry to see you go. But when your name change is finished our job is done. You can cancel your Colorado Name Change membership through the site when you are ready.

All you need to do is Login from the top of any page. Once you are logged in you will see a Profile button at the top of the page.

Selecting the Profile button pops up a small account information window. Now you can choose the Membership option to the left.

The Membership page will show your currently active membership with a link to Cancel to the right. Choosing the Cancel link will bring up a button below asking you to Confirm your cancellation.

Once this confirmation button is selected your subscription is cancelled. Your credit card will not be charged again.
